Ayesha Shakya, Yan Kumari Chaulagain and Rejina Karki were selected on Monday, while 10 more players made the cut after winning their respective weight category events in the selection tournament held at the International Sports Complex in Satdobato. Gyani Chunara of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) and Neema Gurung of Nepal Police Club (NPC) were two more women players selected on Tuesday.
In the final matches, Chunara defeated Renu Lama 15-2 in below-57kg weight category, while Gurung sidelined Namrata Tuladhar of TAC 19-11 in below-53kg.
Prem Bahadur Budhathoki of TAC booked his ticket in men’s above-87kg, defeating clubmate Purna Singh Khadka, a member in the national team, 6-1. Mohammad Waise of Central Region defeated James Pradhan of NPC 18-9 in the below-68kg final. Likewise, Bir Bahadur Mahara of NPC won the below-63kg final easing past Ajay Gurung of Central.
Sunil Paudel (below-58kg) of Western, Chandra Bahadur Rana Magar (below-54kg) of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club, Nischal Man Shrestha (below-74kg) of NPC, Sakshyam Karki (below-80kg) and Ram Hari Mahato (below-87kg) of TAC all qualified from their weight categories. A total of 117 players had competed in the selection tournament that offered 13 spots for the Games.
