Chamber Expo opens at Bhrikutimandap
Nepal Chamber Expo 2016 threw open its doors at Bhrikutimandap on Thursday. The exhibition is being organised by the Nepal Chamber
of Commerce (NCC) in association with the Ministry of Commerce and the Korean Embassy in Kathmandu.
Smartphones from the Chaudhary Group, Tata four-wheelers exhibited by Sipradi Trading, trekking accessories and local products from Jumla are the crowd pullers at the event. Footwear from Nepali Jutta Ghar, solar energy solutions and Hyundai four-wheelers are the other attractions.
The expo also contains a
Korean Pavilion where South Korean products are displayed. KIA automobiles, Black Yak mountaineering equipment and apparels and Beltronix electronic and computer products are among the main attractions at the Korean Pavilion.
“This kind of expo is vital to rejuvenate the country’s economy which has been battered by a series of misfortunes,” said Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel, inaugurating the expo. He added that the government and the private sector needed to work in tandem to achieve economic growth. “The government has started work to diversify trade, Poudel said.
NCC President Rajesh Kaji Shrestha said the objective of the exhibition was to boost business activities amid the ongoing trade embargo. He urged the government to take effective measures to end the embargo as soon as possible. “The expo will bring a large number of sellers and buyers to a single platform to showcase their products.”
Likewise, Commerce Secretary Naindra Prasad Upadhyay said that the expo would benefit both the traders and the general public. “Besides, the platform will also help promote the export of Nepali products,” he added.
Korean Ambassador to Nepal Choe Yong-jin said that the collaboration that was seen in organizing the expo would help to strengthen bilateral relations in the long run. According to
him, South Korea has been providing $50 million in aid to Nepal annually.
