Party unification soon: Gurung

- Post Report, PARBAT

CPN-Maoist leader Dev Gurung has said efforts had been initiated to unify the party with the UCPN (Maoist) with an aim to “protect the country’s integrity and sovereignty”.

“We true communists are preparing for a merger. Internal discussions are underway for the same. We will be unified soon,” Gurung said at a party programme in Parbat district on Monday.

Stating that the two parties had held numerous informal talks for unification, Gurung said there would now be point-wise discussion on the principles.

“The country is far more important than its constitution. If the country remains, constitution can be written at any time. But if the country disintegrates, it can never be reintegrated,” said Gurung.

The secretariat member of the Mohan Baidya-led Maoist party also claimed that the country could have avoided the current turmoil had the Maoist forces remained one.

Speaking about the Tarai agitation and India’s unofficial blockade, Gurung accused the ruling parties of not being serious about these issues.

Gurung said the problems would be resolved soon if the government and the agitating parties negotiated their positions.

He urged the agitating sides to be serious about national interests.
