DREAMS: Images of your achievements

Law,” I proudly replied when an aunt, at a gathering, asked me about what I was studying. “Oh, so you aim to become a house wife who has a degree in law and can perfectly argue with her mother-in-law?” she commented with sarcasm.
It’s been four months since I got into law school, and I think it has been one of the best decisions of my life so far. I cannot deny the fact that I sometimes get annoyed by those big legal jargons and theories, but at the same time I also cannot deny that I am doing something I have always dreamed of doing. I get tired, but, at the end of the day, the satisfaction of doing something you love is there and it gives me a peace of mind.
Not everyone gets to do what they want to. I am lucky; I say this to myself when I feel like I am failing. Law isn’t easy to study. But it also isn’t a boring subject.
But some people just aren’t ready to appreciate it.
“MBBS would have been better for you. It would help you get a nice rich husband.” This is something I have heard a thousand times. Seriously, folks?
Do you think girls study to get “nice rich husbands”? Well, if you think so, let me tell you, I study to get a nice job to boost myself economically, to get a car of my own so that I can go on long road trips all alone, to get myself a nice apartment where I can sit with peace and write a book about life and lessons learnt; I am studying to encourage all the girls out there, who think studying is a waste of time, to go get an education.
So what if I am a girl? That doesn’t mean I should get married at the age of 25-27 and settle with my husband and have a nice family life. I mean, of course I respect that, but not at such an early age. What will happen to my dream of getting a triple masters degree if I get married so early? I have dreams. And to fulfill those dreams I need time, a lot of time. And I know even if I won’t be able to fulfill all my dreams, I will have the contentment that at least I was able to make some of them come true.
Dreams cost nothing. They just are the imagination of the life you want. They provide you with all the encouragement you want in your life to achieve the life you want. We just need to dream and transfer them into thoughts which will surely result into actions. As late A P J Abdul Kalam said, “Dream, Dream Dream. Dreams transform into thoughts and thoughts result in action.”
