Public bus service resumes in Janakpur

Agitating Samyukta Loktantrik MadhesiMorcha is yet to respondto the decision oftransport entrepreneurs

Jan 21, 2016-Public bus service that was obstructed for around six months due to Tarai protest resumed in Janakpur on Wednesday morning.

After buses started plying the roads in Janakpur, the city is returning to normalcy.

Tej Narayan Chaudhary, former chairman of the Janakpur Zonal Transport Entrepreneurs’ Association (JZTEA), said buses have resumed services in the Janakpur-Birgunj route. “Bus services will also be resumed in routes connecting Kakadvitta, Biratnagar and Kathmandu in the upcoming days,” he said. Around 350 buses used to ferry people from Janakpur to several cities across the country. However, due to political unrest, around 1,500 transportation workers are jobless in Janakpur. A secret meeting of the JZTEA had decided to resume bus services from January 18. However, they were unable to run vehicles as talks in between Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha and the government could not yield any positive results.

Though representatives of transport entrepreneurs’ associations claimed the SLMM agreed to their decision, Morcha leaders are yet to comment on the matter.

Morcha leader Sanjaya Kumar Singh said they will issue official statement after discussing the matter with other leaders. Transport entrepreneurs, however, said they resumed bus services keeping in mind people’s hardships.
