The KMC is holding several programmes throughout the week in honour of the first four martyrs of the country – Shukraraj Shastri, Dharmabhakta Mathema, Gangalal Shrestha and Dasharath Chand – who were all hanged in 1941 for opposing the Rana regime.
Shastri was hanged in Pachali on January 23, Mathema in Siphal on January 26, and Shrestha and Chand were hanged in Sobha Bhagwati on January 28.
The KMC has planned to honour the four martyrs in the same place where they were killed on those specific dates.
On January 30, a rally will be taken out from Shanti Batika in Ratnapark to Lainchaur-based Sahid Smarak for a formal programme, officials said. The KMC has been organising Martyrs’ Week since 1956.
