‘Regular’ fuel distribution in Valley from next week
Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) is considering regularising distribution of petroleum products to private motorists from next week.Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) is considering regularising distribution of petroleum products to private motorists from next week. Having diverted petroleum supply from its district-based depots to the Capital, the state-owned enterprise now has enough fuel in stock for distribution in the Valley on a regular basis, albeit in reduced quantities.
NOC Spokesman Mukunda Ghimire said the oil monopoly had planned to distribute fuel on regular basis, adding that supplies from its depots in Nepalgunj, Bhairahawa and Biratnagar could fairly meet the Valley’s demand.
“Although the quantity we receive from these depots won’t be sufficient to meet the entire demand in the Valley, we have planned to impose a quota system to ensure regular distribution,” he said.
Last week, the NOC asked its depots in Nepalgunj, Bhairahawa and Biratnagar to divert fuel—more than 300 kilolitres of petrol and 400kl of diesel—to the Valley on a daily basis as fuel supply from India has improved lately. The demand in the Valley amounts to 450kl of petrol and 600kl of diesel.
The NOC has asked the Biratnagar depot to send 100kl petrol and 300kl diesel to the Capital, with Nepalgunj and Bhairahawa depots being instructed to divert 50kl of petrol and diesel each and 150kl of petrol and 100kl of diesel respectively. The NOC has been providing fuel to the emergency services on regular basis.
