Quake survivors hopeful about digital data collection

She is one of the 127 engineers mobilised by the government to record the damage, casualties and state of the people in the aftermath of the earthquake. These engineers will visit every earthquake-affected village, survey the structure of the houses, interview the survivors and make photographic records.
The data collected in tablets will be sent to the server of the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).
Chapagain said the earthquake-affected people have been cooperative so far, making their job easier.
“We have learnt that other villages in Dolakha are eagerly waiting for us. Hopefully, our job here will help the earthquake survivors,” Chapagain said.
The quake-affected families in the district are hopeful that the digital data will make reconstruction and rehabilitation works more effective.
The CBS informed that they will also collect the data in other quake-affected districts. The government started the electronic data collection of earthquake victims from Dolakha district to identify the genuine quake victims.
The project has been launched at the initiative of donor agencies to ensure no victims are left behind during relief distribution. CBS Director Gyanendra Bajracharya said they will collect the data from 11 districts within one and half months. “We hope that the engineers will complete the task on time,” said Bajracharya.
