A panel led by Chief Secretary Somlal Subedi has recommended the government to become a member of Open Government Partnership (OGP), a multilateral initiative that aims to secure concrete commitments from governments to promote transparency, empower citizens, fight corruption and harness new technologies to strengthen governance.

Membership to the OGP is granted based on a performance score under four categories of fiscal transparency, access to information, public officials asset disclosure and citizen engagement.

To become a member, a country should score over 75 percent. Nepal has a score of 85 percent, making it eligible join the OGP.
