Ganga Maya, who has been on a hunger strike demanding justice for the murder of her son Krishna Prasad Adhikari, was admitted to the ICU at Bir Hospital on Tuesday after she had respiratory problems. She has also lost mobility. She has been suffering from DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) on the left leg for the last three years, and the condition was seen on her right leg as well.
Krishna Prasad was killed in June 2004 in Chitwan.
Ganga Maya and her husband Nanda Prasad were on fast-unto-death demanding that her son’s killer(s) be brought to book.
Nanda Prasad died in September 2014.
“We want the government to act immediately to save Ganga Maya,” said rights defender Charan Prasai, who has been following Ganga Maya’s case for long. “We might lose her as well if the government fails to act immediately.”
Revoking the Hetaunda Appellate Court decision to release murder accused Chhabilal Poudel, the Supreme Court (SC) in December last year had ruled that Poudel be sent to judicial custody. But the accused is yet to be arrested.
Prasai said rights activists and general public will stage protests in Baluwatar at 9am on Thursday. “We want the government to detain Poudel and proceed with the case,” he added.
Ganga Maya, who had survived on intravenous nutrients for 355 days, had broken her hunger strike in October after the government assured her that the guilty would be brought to book. But she had refused to receive her husband’s body and instead decided to continue her hunger strike.
