Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the government is committed towards maintaining peace, sovereignty, social justice, and territorial integrity.

Addressing a special ceremony organised at Tundhikhel in Kathmandu to mark the 66th Democracy Day on Friday, the prime minister said the day should inspire everyone towards nation-building to honour the martyrs who gave their lives for freedom and democracy in the past.

On this day, he said, we remember and honour the known and unknown freedom fighters whose unflappable conviction for a people governed country, whose brave struggle to liberate the country from the tyrannical regime of Rana oligarch, sowed the first seed of democracy in the conscience of Nepali people. The constitution promulgated on September 20, 2015, through a people’s elected Constituent Assembly was a result of the first democracy movement against the Ranas, the prime minister added.
