Speaking at a programme organised by the Nepali Congress to mark Koirala’s 13th day death ceremony, leaders underlined the need of unity among parties for the successful implementation of the constitution.
They also lauded the role played by the late Koirala in drafting the constitution as the head of government and the president of the largest party.
Koirala was the 37th prime minister of Nepal, who served from February 11, 2014 to October 10, 2015. The country adopted its new charter on September 20. NC Acting President Ram Chandra Poudel said Koirala’s simplicity and determination should be a source of inspiration for all party leaders and cadres
UCPN (M) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said Koirala played a very vital role in drafting and promulgation of the constitution. Stating that the country now is at a very crucial phase, Dahal underlined the need of unity among major parties for effective implementation of the constitution.
Acting Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar said Koirala’s simplicity and active life should serve as an inspiration for the political leaders.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Lokendra Bahadur Chand said Koirala will be remembered as a towering personality in the political history of Nepal for his contribution in constitution making. Chand also praised Koirala for his simplicity.
UML leader Bam Dev Gautam said there were attempts to remove Koirala from the post of prime minister. According to him, the UML had endorsed a
proposal seeking to remove Koirala but he foiled the plan. Gautam added that constitution drafting became easy because Koirala continued to lead the country as the prime minister.
