Speaking at a launch event here on Sunday, Huawei’s Marketing Manager Summit Pradhananga said the Mate 8 smartphone
comes with the EMUI 4.0, new generation Huawei operating system on top of Google’s Android. The phone is powered by Kirin
950 chipset—16nm FinFET plus chip technology—and ARM Cortex-A72 processor that ensure smooth performance.
Pradhananga said the latest Kirin 950 chipset ensures cent percent integration level and power efficiency. “The smartphone’s ‘thermal design’ checks overheating and ensure less power consumption,” said Pradhananga. “The phone also comes with a three-level security system.”
The phone includes three microphones that automatically detect sound sources and record voices from all directions and during playback, users can choose any direction of the sound source they want to hear, according to the company. The smartphone is 7.9mm thick and weighs 185 grams. It features a six-inch full HD “negative” LCD screen that ensures 95 percent colour saturation, which according to the company, is the highest among similar products. The Mate 8 comes with a 4,000mAh battery. “The high-density battery offers up to two-day backup in normal use,” said Pradhananga.
The 4G-compatible handset rocks a 16MP rear camera with fourth generation smart image processing. The second smartphone from the Huawei stable, the GR5, features a 13MO rear camera with slow motion video capture. Pradhananga said the GR5
was aimed at the youths. The Huawei Mate 8 has been priced at Rs79,999, while the GR5 is available at Rs33,999.
