Rana is Nepal’s candidate for CEDAW

The government has decided to push Bandana Rana, a woman rights activist and media personality, as a candidate for Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women  (CEDAW) for 2017-2020.

Rana’s candidacy has already been registered with the United Nations Human Rights Commission in Geneva. A meeting of member states will take place in New York on June 21 with the aim of electing eleven members of the committee to replace those members whose terms will expire on December 31, 2016. Thirteen women rights activists have already filed their candidacies as of Monday.
