On February 27, Safal Nepal organised its first Resale Bazar to promote its concept of reduce, reuse, recycle at Saugal Chowk in Lalitpur.
“Many people tend to throw away their stuff, even the ones that can be used again. This only contributes to an increase in the average waste of a person, and usable products end up in various landfill sites,” said one of the organiser.
The idea of the Resale Bazaar was to promote the idea of selling and buying used goods ranging from electronics to household items.
Many local residents, students, and even tourists passing by Saugal Chowk were intruiged by the bazaar and commented that the idea of a second-hand shop was a great
idea, especially both cost and environment wise, and showed their enthusiasm for the cause. One of the local residents who attended the second-hand market said, “ I was about to dump a bag of new clothes that does not fit my child anymore. Next time, I’ll come set up a stall and sell it. I could use the money to buy some other things for them.”
Safal Nepal is a non-governmental, not for profit organisation established in 2015, with a focus on environment, youth and community empowerment.
The organisation plans on holding the Resale Bazar every Saturday at Saugal Chowk, before venturing out eventually to other localities in the Valley and beyond.
