BMW Club of India defeated Nepal Police Club (NPC) to claim the Padmodaya Men’s Volleyball Tournament here on Wednesday.
In the final, BMW won the first set 25-22 only for NPC to win the second 25-17. However, the tourists won the third and fourth sets 25-16, 25-21 leaving the local supporters dejected. BMW received Rs 150,000 and got NPC got Rs 100,000.
NPC coach Saroj Shrestha said the injury to one of their key players Dev Sharma was big setback for them. “Dev was injured and the entire team was not able to make up for his absence,” said Shrestha. Sharma fractured his right hand finger during the semi-finals on Tuesday.
BMW coach Sanjeev Singh said his side deserved the title. “We had been playing good throughout the tournament and repeated that today as well. We got what we deserved,” said Singh.
Nepal Armed Police Force Club (APF), meanwhile, won the third place match defeated another foreign invitee Water Development Board of Bangladesh 25-21, 25-16, 18-25, 25-19. APF, the defending champions, got Rs 50,000.
BMW Club spiker Subham was adjudged the best player of the tournament and received Rs 25,000 for his effort. Pushpa Jung Malla (libero) of APF, Sanjay Aryal (blocker) and Im Rana (lifter) of NPC along with Sunny (server) of BMW were other individual winners. They got Rs 5,000 each.
