If the current trend continues, NC leaders say, the Deuba faction will have at least 60 percent members in the 84-strong CWC. In the 25 open seats, 14 Deuba supporters have maintained a lead while the rest are close to the faction led by defeated presidential candidate Ram Chandra Poudel.
As of Saturday evening, 1,200 of the more than 3,000 votes for the central members have been counted. In reservation quotas such as for women, Madhesis, Muslims, indigenous groups and Dalits, the Deuba camp has a majority.
Besides, the president nominates the remaining 24 members, which means Deuba will have a comfortable majority in the CWC, a key decision-making body.
In the six women’s seats, Dila Sangraula, Pushpa Bhusal, Kamala Pant, Ishwari Neupane, Ambika Basnet and Sarita Prasai have been elected.
Four of them are Deuba supporters. In the indigenous male category, Chinkaji Shrestha, Bahadur Singh Lama and Kalyan Gurung have won. Sita Gurung and Ratna Sherchan have emerged victorious in the indigenous women’s category.
Under the male Dalit quotas, Jiwan Pariyar, Man Bahadur Bishwokarma and Min Bahadur Bishwokarma have secured their positions. Laxmi Pariyar and Sujata Pariyar are the ones victorious from the female Dalit quota. Jiwan Pariyar
supports Poudel and the remaining four are on Deuba’s side.
In the Madhesi category, Ajaya Chaurasiya, Mahendra Yadav and Ram Krishna Yadav are the male winners and Kiran Yadav and Parbati DC Chaudhary are the female winners.
A Muslim quota winner, Formullah Mansoor had switched to Deuba’s side just before the convention.
In the open competition, Shekhar Koirala, Prakash Man Singh, Khum Bahadur Khadka, Pradeep Poudel, Purna Bahadur Khadka, Bimalendra Nidhi, Ramesh Lekhak, Pradeep Giri, Kul Bahadur Gurung, Bal Krishna Khand, Mahesh Acharya, Dhanraj Gurung, Bal Bahadur KC, Ram Sharan Mahat and Minendra Rijal lead the tally as more than half the votes are yet to be counted.
