‘NC’s job to take lead for Tarai deal’
Mar 13, 2016-
Newly elected Nepali Congress Treasurer Sita Devi Yadav has said the Madhes is the heartland of the party.
Talking to reporters at the Koirala Residence in Biratnagar on Saturday, Yadav said the NC would not survive without resolving the issues concerning the Tarai region where an agitation continued for five months over the new constitution. She said the NC should take initiatives to ensure the rights of the Madhesi people.
Stating that there is no alternative to dialogue, Yadav urged the Madhes-based parties to engage in talks to get their concerns addressed. She said there was no need for protests anymore as some of the demands of the agitating parties were already addressed through constitutional amendment and others could also be addressed in consensus. In another context, Yadav said the ongoing general convention of the party had encouraged an end to factional politics. She was on the way to her home district Siraha after emerging victorious in the race for the NC treasurer.
No haste for leading govt: Poudel
BHARATPUR: NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel, who was defeated by Sher Bahadur Deuba for the post of party president at the 13th General Convention, said the party had no haste for joining or leading the government. Talking to reporters in Bharatpur on Saturday, Poudel said the largest party should wait as long as the second largest CPN-UML runs the government well. He said victory and defeat are natural in democracy. (PR)
