Graft complaint filed against Birat Petroleum

All Nepal National Free Student’s Union (ANNFSU), the student wing of the ruling CPN-UML, on Wednesday filed the complaint at the anti-graft body, arguing that the company charged Rs31 more than usual price for a litre of petrol.
The student wing claimed that Birat Petroleum made a profit worth Rs 40.5 million by selling petrol at an exorbitant price.
The price for petrol has been fixed at Rs 99 per litre, but Birat Petroleum was selling it for Rs 130 per litre before it was forced to bring down the price.
When fuel shortages were at its peak following an unofficial Indian blockade, the Nepal Oil Corporation had permitted Birat Petroleum, a private company, to import petrol. The student union has demanded that the CIAA instruct Birat Petroleum deposit around Rs 40.5 million in the state coffers that it earned by selling the petrol at an exorbitant price for five days.
A team led by ANNFSU Chairperson Nabina Lama met CIAA Spokesperson Krishna Hari Pushkar and urged for a prompt investigation into the case and action against those involved in misappropriating fund and fuel.

A writ petition was also filed at the Supreme Court by the student wing on Wednesday demanding to scrap contract made with it and recover overcharged amount.
