Shrestha, Lama to clash for title

Top ranked Shivaram Shrestha and second ranked Sanjay Lama set the Surya Nepal NPGA Match Play title clash here at the par-67 Royal Nepal Golf Club (RNGC) on Wednesday.

The Nepal No 1 and RNGC pro Shrestha eliminated fourth ranked clubmate Rabi Khadka 2&1, while Tribhuvan Army Officers Golf Club pro Lama battle to defeat Bhuwan Nagarkoti of Gokarna Golf Club on the first extra hole after the 18 holes of regulation play ended in stalemate. The championship match will be played over 36 holes on Thursday, the same day Khadka and Nagarkoti battles for a third-place playoff to be played over 18 holes.

Earlier in the quarter-finals, Shrestha saw off RNGC clubmate Rame Magar 3&2, Khadka beat his clubmate Surya Prasad Sharma 5&4, Nagarkoti won one-up against RNGC Head Pro Deepak Thapa Magar, and Sanjay dispatched fellow Army Club pro Dhana Thapa 4&2.

Top 16 professional golfers took part in the tournament, the fifth event held under Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2015-16. Top four golfers will earn Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000, Rs 22,000 and Rs 18,000 respectively. The losing quarter-finalists will be rewarded with Rs 10,000 apart from Rs 5,000 each to the eight first-round losers.
