A visually-impaired elderly couple, living in difficulties since being displaced by the Gorkha Earthquake, have received support to rebuild their house at Sarling in Lothar-8.
After the Post published a news titled “Old couple sightless, homeless, helpless” on Jan 4, donors from foreign countries have come forward to extend help to the couple.
“We have already collected Rs186,570 till date. Soon we will collect Rs200,000 and hand over to the old couple to build a permanent house,” said Krishna Prasad Sharma, a Baglung native currently living in London. Talking over the telephone, Sharma said many people were interested to help the couple after reading the news in the Post.
Dam Bahadur Chepang, 92, and his wife Saunimaya, 95, of an impoverished Chepang community said they have been waiting for the state aid to construct a new house.
“We have lost hope of building a new house. We are glad to hear that people want to help us. We are very thankful to them and god will make their wishes come true,” said Dam Bahadur. Local volunteer Aaita Bahadur Chepang said they have started managing a plot to build a house. “We will construct a house within a month,” he said.
