Attariya will now meet the winners of Thursday’s second Qualifier match between Chauraha and Campus Road. In the Eliminator game on Tuesday, Chauraha overcame Hasanpur Royals by 78 runs with Bhuwan Karki shining with both bat and ball.
Campus Road headed into the first Qualifier as the table toppers but they were undone by Tamang’s all round show who picked up four wickets and carried the bat in team’s chase. Electing to bat first, Campus Road were restricted to 95-9 in 20 overs before Attariya reached 97-3 in 18.1 overs.
Attariya had a poor start losing Shailesh Khadayat (duck) and Gyanendra Kunwar (four) with just 21 runs on the board before Tamang, the highest scorer from Nepal in the recently concluded ICC U-19 World Cup, anchored the innings.
Tamang shared 51 runs for the third wicket with skipper Mehboob Alam to take the game away from Campus Road. Alam made 37 from 20 balls with three fours and three sixes before losing his wicket to Chandra Saud.
After Alam’s dismissal, Tamang completed the chase with Binod Bhandari (10 not out). Tamang scored a composed 40 not out from 52 balls with five boundaries.
Earlier, Campus Road lost opener Roman Bam (five) early in the game and never managed to forge a partnership that could have guided them towards a safe total.
Saroj Ayer made 15 off 18 with three fours from the top order, while No 8 Lalit Singh Bhandari pushed them close to triple figures with a 16-ball 23 not out that included a four and a six. Tamang returned the figures of 4-15 from four overs, while Bhandari (2-21) and Kunwar (2-6) shared four wickets between them. Lokesh Bam (11) was the only remaining Campus Road batsman to make runs in double figures.
“I bowled according to the nature of the pitch and that helped me. All of our boys played pretty nice game today,” said man-of-the-match Tamang.
In the Eliminator, Bhuwan Karki rescued his side from a slide as Chauraha recovered from 83-5 to post 152-9 in 20 overs. Hasanpur in reply were bundled out for 74 in 17.4 overs.
Hasanpur were right in the chase when Prakash Thapa (six) and Binod Lama began with a 30-run stand but once Karki dismissed the former, their slide began. No 3 Lalit Bam top scored with a 33-ball 29 and Lama made 21 off 28 but after them, no other batsmen managed to put fight.
Bam hit four fours and Lama had three boundaries to his name. Sonu Tamang was crucial with his pace bowling taking 3-8 in 3.4 overs, while Karki and Kiran Thagunna had two scalps apiece.
Despite a decent start, Chauraha lost their first five batsmen just after 80-run mark but Karki rescued the team with a crucial 49-run stand with Bipin Rawal.
Karki made 39 off 35 with four fours and a six, while Rawal chipped in 23 off 25 with three boundaries.
Opener Padam KC scored some quick runs with an 18-ball 27 that included five fours and Sandeep Jora managed 16 off 14 with three hit to the fence for the winning side. Bhim Sarki took 2-18 for Hasanpur.
