The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has announced to install 6,000 solar lamps on 145km road in the city at an estimated cost of Rs800 million.

Uttar Kumar Regmi, chief of the Department of Physical Development and Construction at the KMC, said they expect to start the project in three months. The KMC has asked the government for funds for the purpose.

The measure is expected to help reduce road accidents and criminal activities during the night. For the 18th Saarc Summit a year ago, the metropolis had installed 1,600 solar street lamps. This week, 92 solar lights were fitted at Basantapur and its surrounding areas.
