‘Unity govt a must to end political standoff’

Talking to journalists in Tanahun on Saturday, the Maoist chief said that a consensus government is a must for effective implementation of new constitution, development, stability and peace.
“I have been stressing on the need of a national unity government since the earthquake struck the country. It is time to steer the country towards development through the formation of a national unity government,” he said.
The former prime minister also said that he was not in the race to become prime minister again. “Nor do I aspire to become the president,” said Dahal, adding: “I have always put national interests before holding key state positions.”
In a different context, the Maoist chief said his party would hold talks with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli after the latter returned from China to address the demands of Madhes. Oli is scheduled to return home on Sunday from his weeklong China visit. Dahal was in the district to attend a party programme.
