Sadbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato has warned of launching another “strong” protest to get the demands of the Madhes-based parties addressed.
At a news conference in Biratnagar on Thursday held to make public the party’s decisions, Mahato said preparations were under way to wage a “decisive” agitation within two weeks. The party had held its three-day plenum in Biratnagar to decide on resuming the stir that had ended without a concrete outcome six months after paralysing the country.
“The government did not pay heed to our soft protest. There are no banda, protest and obstruction at border points [now]. But the government did not take any initiative to resolve the issues of Madhes. There is no alternative to a strong movement now,” said Mahato. He, however, clarified that his party has no plans to stage sit-ins at the Nepal-India border points realising that the earlier obstruction had crippled public life.
During the press meet, Mahato said the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha, an alliance of the regional parties, would decide on the protest modality.
