Two teams of  the Indian Army have arrived in Kathmandu to scale the Mt Everest. They will depart from Kathmandu to Jiri on April 3 and 4, before trekking to the Everest region.

Col Gaurav Karki, who is leading the Indian Army expedition, said that it was for the first time in the Indian Army’s history that 10 girl cadets from the National Cadet Corps were attempting to conquer the world’s highest peak.

These 10 cadets were selected from among 100 NCC girls and put to a vigorous training in Karakorum area to prepare them for the climb.The teams are expected to reach the Everest base camp by 21st April and begin accli-matisation routine for the ascent, Col Karki said.

The window for Everest climbing is  between May 15th and 25th. Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae on Friday met the expedition members and wished them success
