KC elected Bar Association president
Advocate Sher Bahadur KC has been elected president of the Nepal Bar Association defeating his rival Bijaya Kanta Mainali.Advocate Sher Bahadur KC has been elected president of the Nepal Bar Association defeating his rival Bijaya Kanta Mainali.
KC represents the “democratic” panel while Mainali belongs to the “progressive” panel. The NBA is the umbrella organisation of lawyers and advocates. KC received 3,798 votes against Mainali’s 3,715.
The democratic panel won two-third seats in the 25-strong central working committee including its candidates as the president, general secretary, four regional vice presidents and treasures.
The progressive panel of candidates supporting the CPN-UML and UPCN (Maoist) parties won six seats. Khamba Bahadur Khati became the secretary general by defeating Dinmani Pokhrel of the progressive panel.
Madan Kumar Khadka, Binaya Singh, Motiraj Gutam, Ghanshyam Panta, Salikram Sapkota, Kulananda Upadhyay and Usha Pathak were elected vice-presidents from eastern, central including Valley, western, mid-western and far-western regions and the female quota. Shyam Kumar Bishwokarma, Madhur Pathak, Raman Kumar Karna, Asmin Kumar Rai, Harinarayan Chaudhary, Indu Koirala, Sanu Maiya Maharjan, Padam Bahadur Shahi, Gyanendra Prasad Adhikari, Arun Poudel, Laxman Acharya, Krishna Prasad Paneru, Indra Bahadur Adhikari, Bishnu Maya Bhusal and Krishna Angdambe were elected as central members.
There were 71 candidates from three panels for the 25 posts. Out of the 9,522 voters, 7,845 had cast their vote.
