Amidst protest of the VDC secretaries, the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) on Sunday reached an agreement with the earthquake victims for rebuilding houses destroyed at Marpak—a remote village in Dhading district.

The authority signed the aid agreement following the completion of fresh data of the quake victims. NRA representatives and other employees waited for VDC Secretary Rupak Adhikari to sign the agreement. The signings began only around 2pm after the VDC secretary said he would not come to the village for the occasion.

The VDC secretaries have refused to take responsibilities for reconstruction works in other VDCs that have no secretaries unless they

are provided an additional allowance.

VDC assistant Badri Adhikari signed the aid agreement on behalf of the government. “The aid agreement was signed with 16 households at Marpak-1 in the presence of NRA Under Secretary Sriju Pradhan and Administrative Officer of the Local Administration Ram Mani Mishra,” said Baburam Phyuwa, the district coordinator of the Housing Maintenance and Reconstruction Forum. He said forms of 35 households out of the total 74 in the ward were registered on Sunday. Seventeen families have been asked to submit required documents for the aid agreement, Phyuwa added.  

A total of 1,004 households have been verified during the fresh survey of the quake victims in Marpak VDC, Dhading. The NRA carried out re-verification after discrepancies in the number of victims in quake-hit districts.

Aid deal signing reaches Gorkha

GORKHA: Nearly a year after the devastating earthquake, the National Reconstruction Authority on Sunday signed aid agreement with the quake victims in Hansapur VDC. The VDC secretary signed the agreement with four quake victims on Sunday. “The amount will be deposited into the victims’ bank accounts once the agreement paper are submitted at the District Development Committee,” said Local Development Officer Narayan Prasad Acharya.
