If you have been keeping tabs on the flow of Nepali literature of late, you must have noticed the trend of book tours—a practice where the publishers take the books to mofussil along with their authors, engaging readers nationwide in book discussions.
While Fineprint—publisher of Firfire—just concluded their nationwide book tour, Bookhill Publications—publisher of Brajesh Khanal’s new presentation Juneli—is currently on a tour to Pokhara.
As part of the tour, author Khanal engaged in a discussion about his latest Juneli in Pokhara, on Sunday. The event was organised by the Pokhara-based Random Reader’s Society.
The event saw discussion on the themes of the novel and author Khanal also answered the queries from the audience. Speaking during the event, Khanal said, “Juneli has received a variety of reviews, some expected, some unexpected...As far as the characters are concerned, they are the outcome of my observation of the society—some come out of my observation, some out of reading and some through hear-say.”
Juneli is Khanal’s second fictional book. His debut novel, Yayabar (2011), was widely acclaimed, expecially for its psychoanalytic exploration of the sexuality of its characters. Khanal has also written scripts for about 50 Nepali features.
