The cameras were installed on the Nepali New Year (April 13) in Satdobato, Sanepa and Kumaripati. The cameras were gifted to the Lalitpur Traffic Police Office by the local residents, who were reportedly happy at their work, to help enforce the road rules. GoPro cameras can record both audio and visuals of traffic rule violators and flaws of riders during accidents from up to 500 metres, and are useful in tracking the behaviour of traffic police.
On the first day, 170 traffic rule violators were booked with the help of the cameras, 100 on Thursday and 30 on Friday. “With this move, riders have started following the lane rule,” said Sitaram Hachhethu, chief of the Lalitpur traffic police.
