At the conclusion of the party’s Central Committee (CC) meeting on Friday, the party endorsed a special proposal, extending an olive branch to the agitating Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha, an alliance of seven Madhes-based parties, which is planning to launch fresh protests.
“We urge the Morcha, which withdrew its earlier protests considering hardships caused by blockade, unusual situation and loss caused by the protests, to participate in dialogue,” states the UML’s proposal.
The CC also drew the government’s attention to early release of relief package to families of those killed, including security personnel in Kailali, during the protests in the Tarai. The CC meeting also urged the government to withdraw political cases against the leaders and cadres in connection with Madhes protests.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, also the UML chairman, during his address to the nation had made an appeal to the agitating parties to return to the negotiating table.
