Superintendent of Police (SP) Narendra Prasad Uprety said Maksud Ansari and Saiphullaha Ansari of Hariharpur-4 were selling the counterfeit bills in the Nepal-India border area, taking advantage of Indian currency shortage.
“We have mobilised a special police unit after being tipped off that a fake Indian currency racket has been active in the area,” said SP Uprety.
A few months ago, police had arrested two persons, including Jitendra Sahani of Motihari from India state of Bihar with IRs 31,000 in fake currency from Jitpur area. Though police have arrested many fake Indian currency carriers, they are unable to track down the main racket. According to the record of District Police Office, around 30 people have been arrested on suspicion of possessing fake Indian currency in two years.
