Water sources dry up in Jajarkot

Many residents at Bherimalika Municipality in Jajarkot are facing water shortage as the water sources in the area have dried up because of long dry spell.
Local Dipananda Giri said even the water level in Bheri River has dipped by two metres. He added that many farmers in the district could not plant rice because they could not water their farms.
Khar, Pasagadh, Burunge, Holu, Kaphalle,Chhanne, Khurpa, Kotkhola, Mork, Manghat and Rite streams have completely dried up.
People living in Thaple, Syala, Pipaldanda, Gairikhali, Bohara, Risang, Thantibazaar, Mulpani, Dara, Bhur, Jagatipur and Kudu villages are facing an acute shortage of water. They have been forced to travel long distance on a daily basis to fetch drinking water.
Mahesi Mahato, chief engineer at the Drinking Water and Sanitation Sub Division Office, said deforestation and encroachment of forestland have also contributed to the water crisis in Jajarkot.
