‘Misunderstanding about statute cleared in US, UK’
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa has claimed that he has successfully cleared misunderstanding about the new constitution in his recent visits to the United States and the United Kingdom.Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa has claimed that he has successfully cleared misunderstanding about the new constitution in his recent visits to the United States and the United Kingdom.
Thapa, who returned from a 10-day visit of Washington DC and London on Friday, said that he had read equally flawed perceptions in the US and the UK about the new constitution of Nepal.
Talking to journalists at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Friday, Thapa said he sensed similar kind of illusion about the contents of the new constitution in the two countries.
“US and UK officials told me that they were happy to see the constitutional development in Nepal,” said Thapa, who had held talks with US Secretary of State John Kerry and UK ministers of state and commonwealth office.
In his meetings with the British officials, Thapa also raised the issue of Nepal Army Col Kumar Lama, who is under house arrest in the UK on insurgency-era charges, and the issue of British Gurkhas. He said the government would hold dialogue with the agitating Madhes-based parties.
