Wildfires in Dolpa rage for days

According to the District Forest Office, fires have been reported in most of the 51 community forests and 66 leasehold forests in Dolpa.
District Forest Officer Rambichari Thakur said massive blazes had been spreading in forests in Shey-Phoksundo National Park and its buffer zone for the past few days. As many as 3,200 hectares of the national park have been destroyed.
Thakur said the blaze fanned by winds is hard to tame. Steep forestland, a long spell of dry weather and stormy conditions are the main hurdles.
Air services, the only means of transport in this Mountain district, have been halted for the past four days owing to a haze.
In Mugu district, all the flights to and from Talcha Airport have been cancelled in the past three days due to poor visibility.
In Bhojpur district, at least six houses were burnt to ashes as a forest fire caught the settlement at Tindhara on Sunday. According to police, the property loss was estimated at Rs2 million.
