Panchkhal locals picket DAO
May 3, 2016-
The local people from Panchkhal in Kavre district picketed the District Administration Office (DAO) on Monday, demanding that their names be included on the list of earthquake victims.
Around 200 people demonstrated in front of the DAO for about three hours, saying that they had been left out during the collection of data on the earthquake victims.
They urged Chief District Officer Balkrishna Panthi to conduct a field inspection to find the actual situation.
“We were included as earthquake victims in the preliminary data assessment. But we have been left out of the list,” argued Ganesh Prasad Adhikari of Panchkhal.
The dispute over the number of the quake victims has affected the scheduled programme for the agreement on housing reconstruction aid in the area.
The Central Bureau of Statistics data puts the total households in Panchkal at about 2,000, but the final list of quake victims prepared by National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has 2,180 families.
CDO Panthi assured the agitators that he immediately informed the Home Ministry, NRA among other authorities concerned to solve the problem.
