‘Govt conspiring to send Maoist leaders to jail’

“War-era cases should be dealt with by transitional justice mechanisms. Instead they are being brought under regular courts,” said Mahara while speaking during Wednesday’s House meeting.
The UCPN (Maoist) is demanding that the war-era cases, which are sub judice in regular courts, should be brought within the purview of transitional justice bodies. The Maoist leader also came down heavily on the government over its poor performance.
Meanwhile, lawmakers from the Madhes-centric parties criticised the major parties and government for neglecting their demands. They warned of taking to the streets “if the government fails to pay heed to their legitimate demands”.
Lawmakers Sarbendra Nath Shukla and Laxman Lal Karna called on the government to immediately address the demands of the Madhesi and other indigenous communities.
UML lawmaker Rabindra Adhikari said that parties should focus on the implementation of the constitution instead of getting involved in the game of government change.
NC lawmakers Nabindra Raj Joshi and Shyam Kumar Shrestha slammed the government for its failure to construct shelters for quake victims even after a year of the natural disaster.
