The first national convention of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Nepal-Loktantrik concluded in Biratnagar on Thursday, with the revision of the party statute.
The convention unanimously elected Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar as the party chairman and a 42-member central committee.
A total of 2,800 representatives and observers from 62 districts attended the convention which started on Monday, according to Bharatendu Mallik, chairman of the party’s Morang chapter.
A meeting of the newly-elected central body would decide a new name for the party after soliciting suggestions from the cadres.
Speaking on the closing day of the convention, Gachhadar said national issues would be resolved only in consensus between the Madhesi Morcha and the other big and small parties.
Gachhadar, who is a deputy prime minister, pledged to hold consultations with the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML for the formation of a national unity government.
