In a letter addressed to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli five days after receiving an invitation for dialogue from the government, the regional parties have insisted that they are in favour of “meaningful” talks but the government should be flexible on their demands.
Earlier this week, Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa asked the protesting parties in writing to return to the talks table. The government also promised giving complete shape to the high-level political mechanism formed to revise the federal boundaries after reaching a deal with the Madhesi parties.
The agitating parties have sought the government’s position on the list of their demands including a revision to the federal boundaries.
Madhesi parties have expressed concerns over the delays in providing compensation to the families of protesters who died during the six-month long Madhes Movement. They have urged the government to take measures to rebuild trust by fulfilling their non-political demands.
