The series against the national sports institute of Bangladesh is set for May 19-29. The tour comes as a part of an exchange programme with BKSP which will also visit Nepal in due course.
National team skipper Paras Khadka and coach Jagat Tamatta on Monday bade farewell to the team captained by Bishal Babu Adhikari.
Samson Jung Thapa is the coach and Sudeep Sharma, also the director of GHCA, is the team manager. Prakash Chand Thakuri also accompanies the team as assistant manager. Sharma said the tournament will provide a huge amount of exposure to the cricketers.
“BKSP have a very strong squad because they are the reigning U-18 national champions of Bangladesh. It is an institute that produced big names in Bangladesh cricket like Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim. Our motive is to provide our boys with exposure and we are happy that the tour has also been approved by the National Sports Council of Bangladesh,” said Sharma.
“The tour has a huge significance because this is the first time we are going to play against a strong team. We went to New Delhi and Merut previously but this tour will be even more competitive,” said Sharma who was the team manager for Nepal in February’s ICC U-19 World Cup held in Bangladesh.
Khadka urged the GHCA team to make the most of the opportunity. “To get the opportunity to play against a strong side through club level is a big thing. You are lucky to get this kind of tour. You don’t need to worry about the result and give your best,” said Khadka.
Coach Thapa said the opportunity came at a right time for the young cricketers. “Our young boys have always needed a platform to test themselves and this tour comes as a good opportunity,” said Thapa.
