Rs 11b aid for 11 districts
May 17, 2016-
The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) on Monday released Rs11.11 billion for the reconstruction of damaged houses in 11 worst quake-hit districts.
According to the NRA, respective District Development Committees were allocated the aforementioned amount from the Rs12.41 billion provided by the high-powered authority through the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development’s Central Project Implementation Unit.
Although 14 districts were declared as the hardest hit, the government has provided financial aid to only 11 in the first phase. The funds were allocated on the basis of destruction caused by the April 25 earthquake in the respective areas. Ram Prasad Thapaliya, spokesperson at NRA, said that Dholakha and Kavrepalanchok districts were provided around Rs2.22 billion and Rs1.96 billion respectively. Sindhupalchok and Ramechhap districts received around Rs1.76 billion and Rs1.48 billion.
Despite being the epicentre of the April 25 earthquake, Gorkha has only received a total of Rs214.5 million.
According to Thapaliya, quake-survivors in these districts will receive the amount as grant as per the agreement between respective DDCs and Nepal Rastra Bank.
