Indian Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has reportedly restricted some villagers of bordering Kharipur VDC-6 in Bardiya district from growing crops on their own land.
The SSB has allegedly issued a stern warning against cultivating the land that belongs to Hari Krishna Ahir, Bisheshwor Yadav and Siyaram Yadav. Their land, situated close to the border, has been taken over by the SSB, said the villagers.
The three men have registered a complaint at the District Administration Office about the matter.
Chief District Officer Bishnu Thapa said he has already talked with the Indian authorities and asked them not to interfere the villagers from planting crops in the land. He has also proposed surveying the land to confirm if it belongs to Nepal or India.
Two years ago, the Indian border security force had also taken over a land by shifting the position of the border pillars at Thapuwa Gaun in the district. Villagers said 10 kattha land of Phatta Tharu, 2 bigha 7 kattha land of Bishram Tharu, 14 kattha land of Khatik Tharu and 14 kattha of land of Ramdatta Tharu were encroached by the Indian side.
Two weeks earlier, a government team had reported that 150 of the 254 border pillars were missing in the district.
A border encroachment dispute at Gulariya Municipality and Rajapur areas has also not been settled for the past
40 years.
