The second day of the four-day fair saw students seeking advice on prospects of higher education.
SLC and +2 students, who were accompanied by their guardians, had opportunity to visit around 100 stalls set up at the exhibition centre where they sought advice on available courses, education quality, infrastructure and facility and fee structure.
Roshan Rajbanshi, who passed SLC from Morang district, who was at the fair to look for a good +2 college in Kathmandu, said, “I want become an engineer. I am searching for a good +2 college in Kathmandu where I can pursue science course.”
Rajbanshi said the fair was quite helpful as he was able to “narrow down his options after visiting different stalls”.
“Such fairs provide a wonderful opportunity for students like us, as we can visit the representatives of various colleges under one roof,” he said.
The Kantipur Hissan Edu-Fair 2016 has been jointly organised by Kantipur Media Group and the Higher Secondary School’s Association Nepal with an aim to provide students and guardians information on the types of Nepali colleges and degrees available.
KMG and Hissan have been organising the education fair since 2013.
As foreign institutes have been increasingly organising such fairs in the country to promote their colleges, Nepali colleges also felt the need to showcase their facilities and programmes, the orgnaisers said.
The third edition of the annual education fair is being conducted after a gap of two years as the event last year had to be cancelled due to the earthquake.
Teachers, counsellors and students stay in the stalls of their respective colleges to disseminate information.
Programme Director of Premier College Chhabilal Pandey said that students can get information on courses want to pursue.
“We want students to know that they can get quality education in Nepal as well,” he said.
Junu Maharjan, another student who was spotted at the fair on Friday, said, “I want to get into hospitality industry. I am trying to find if there are good colleges in Nepal that provide courses on hospitality management.”
Maharjan said that she had found a couple of good colleges at the fair. Chairman of Hissan Ramesh Silwal said that the fair has been more properly managed this time around. “The number of visitors is encouraging,” he said.

I want to pursue my education in science. I am trying to explore options in terms of colleges and courses. It was good to visit teachers and students themselves about the colleges at one place. It indeed clears the hassle of visiting each and every college.
A Level student, St Xavier’s College, Kathmandu
I wanted to go abroad after completing my A Levels so I did not care about the education fair in the beginning. But after my friends convinced me to visit the fair, I am having second thoughts. I found that Nepali colleges too are very good in terms of quality education and I need not go abroad. I will come back tomorrow with my parents and let them meet representatives of some of the colleges here.

I did not know that there are such a good colleges in Nepal. It was good to attend a fair which exclusively features Nepali colleges. The fair is a very good platform for students who want to pursue higher education in Nepal. I was especially attracted to colleges which have been affiliated with foreign universities and have been recognised by the government as well.

I came to Kathmandu to study +2 but had very limited knowledge about colleges here. But when I came to know about this fair, I immediately thought about visiting this. I have come here with my brother. The fair features lots of colleges. I got an opportunity to meet teachers and students here which was very helpful. I have found some very good management colleges.
