As the rapporteur of the review, Durga Prasad Bhattarai, ambassador/permanent representative of Nepal to the United Nations in New York, presented the document to the closing plenary for adoption, according to Nepal’s Permanent Mission to the UN.
The outcome document is in the form of a political declaration by the attending heads of state and government and other heads of delegations. It focuses on sharing best practices and experiences learned by the LDCs and their development partners, identifying obstacles and constraints, and actions required to overcome them, said the statement.
That would ensure effective implementation of the IPOA in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, the Paris Agreement of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, it said.
Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa, who led the Nepali delegation in the high-level symposium, addressed the review last week, highlighting the need to effectively implement the programme of action.
Bhattarai said a normative framework was necessary at the global level to ensure transparency for the funds meant for the victims of disasters in the LDCs.
