The ruling CPN-UML has said that the current government is cooperating with all friendly countries, including neighbours, to seek their broader support for implementing the constitution and achieving the target of economic prosperity.

At a Standing Committee meeting on Saturday, the party refuted media reports that Prime Minister and party Chairman KP Sharma Oli had stated that India, US, among other countries, were showing interests in changing the government in Nepal.

“The news reports that PM Oli had accused friendly countries, including the US, of showing interests in changing the government are baseless and imaginary. They are inspired by premeditated attempt to damage Nepal’s relationships with these countries,” party Secretary Pradip Gyawali said in a statement on Sunday.

“The international support acquired during relief and rehabilitation in the aftermath of the earthquakes, generosity shown in reconstruction and continued support in constitution implementation, has made Nepal hopeful that we can move ahead even in difficult times,” read the statement.

“We expect further help from our neighbour and friend countries in the current government’s endeavours.” The UML has also urged the media houses to verify their claims with the concerned party officials before running such sensational stories.
