Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party has completed preparations for the party’s general convention.Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party has completed preparations for the party’s general convention.
The first conclave of the party since its formation in 2007 is scheduled for June 20-22 at Ramgram in Nawalparasi district.
At a press conference on Wednesday, TMLP leaders said foreign delegates including leaders of national and regional parties from India are expected to attend the convention.
“We are also planning to invite Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and representatives of other political parties of the country,” said TMLP Chairperson Mahanta Thakur. TMLP and other Madhes-based parties had earlier boycotted the general convention of Nepali Congress and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Loktantrik led by Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar.
TMLP General Secretary Jitendra Sonal said that the party has formed 11 sub-committees to work on the leadership, organisational and political issues that would be discussed at the gathering.
“The political document has already been drafted and agendas have been set for the conclave,” said Sonal, without revealing the position the party would take on the current Madhes issue.
TMLP is the third largest Tarai-centric force after Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum-Nepal and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Loktantrik.
The Election Commission has warned of scrapping registration of several Madhes-centric parties due to delays in holding the general convention.
