Man Bahadur Budhathoki, who had been hiding in Noida of India’s Uttar Pradesh, was arrested recently—20 years after the incidents. According to Nepal Police’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Budhathoki had killed six women after sexual abuse in different parts of Dhanusha and Mahottari.
On June 23, 1996, he had raped a disabled woman while she was grazing cows in the field. The 20-year-old victim was found strangled to death the next day in Maisthan, Mahottari.
Similarly, the CIB said, on March 7, 1996 he had strangled another woman to death after rape. The murder took place at Jamuna bazaar in Dhanusha district while the woman was returning from her parent’s home. SP Dibesh Lohani, CIB spokesperson, said while they have so far established that Budhathoki had been behind six murders, the accused had admitted to committing similar crimes as many as 32 times.
In 1996, a woman in her mid-20s was killed in Bardibas after rape. The body of the woman was found with severe injuries in her head. He prayed on two women on March 25 and August 5 1996, in Lalghad and Dhalkebar of Dhanusha. In the Dhalkebar case, Budhathoki killed 17-year-old girl after a rape attempt was foiled when he heard commotion from nearby village. Budhathoki has been sent to District Police Office Mohattari for further investigation, SP Lohani said.
