Hundreds of houses inundated in Saptari
Hundreds of houses have been inundated by a flooded Triyuga river following incessant rainfall for the past five days in Saptari district. The flood has disrupted movement along the Rajbiraj-Kunauli road section, which connects the district headquarters Rajbiraj with India. Villager Chandan Yadav said flood had entered 36 households in Rajbiraj-9. According to another local, many houses in Dighawa, Rampura, Malhaniya and Tilathi were also affected.
Locals of Rajbiraj-9 obstructed the Rajbiraj-Bhardaha road for two hours on Friday demanding an effective drainage system. In Sunsari, people of Itahari-7 have been affected by a flood in the Tengra stream.
In Tehrathum, at least 15 settlements in nine VDCs face high risks of flood and landslide. The local bodies have categorised the settlements in highly risky areas as these VDCs had developed several fissures after the earthquakes last year.
A woman died after being swept away by a local stream in Khandbari, Sankhuwasabha, on Thursday night. Police said Phulmati Rai of Khandbari drowned in the flooded Bhyang stream. Her body was found nearly 200 meters downstream on Friday.
In the Mid West, a flood in the Babai river threatened to destroy the Bhada bridge along the Gulariya-Nepalgunj road section after continuous bank erosion.
Water level rises in Koshi river
ITAHARI: Water level has risen in Saptakoshi River due to an incessant rainfall in the hilly districts for the past few days. The water flow in the river was measured at 168,690 cusec on Friday. Twenty-six of the 56 sluice gates of Koshi Barrage have been opened as a result.
