A team of experts has initiated works to manage the seized wildlife parts in Chitwan district.

The experts from National Forensic Science Laboratory, Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police, Natural History Museum, Department of Forest, Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC), National Trust for Nature Conservation will suggest weather to destroy or retain the seized wildlife parts that are kept at the Central Storage Centre in Kasara and the Armed Forest Guard Training Centre in Tikauli. The team is expected to publish its report within one week.

After inspecting the wildlife parts on Sunday Forest Minister Agni Sapkota said that the stored animal parts would be either destroyed or managed as per the suggestion of the experts.

The DNPWC had formed a committee to oversee the management of the seized wildlife parts, trophies and products a few months ago. A ministerial meeting had approved the working procedure for the management of the wildlife parts by either destroying them or keeping them for museums, research facilities and educational institutes.

The authorities concerned have taken initiative to manage the seized wildlife parts after 18 years.

Conservationists are of  the opinion that the wildlife parts, except the ones that can be kept at museums and research institutes, should be destroyed.
