45, 000 cases registered at TRC so far

We expect to receive over 50,000 cases of human rights violations by July 17, said TRC officials. The deadline for filing cases at the TRC has been extended till July 17.
“Investigations into the registered cases will be carried out in two phases,” said Manchala Jha, a member of the TRC. “In the first phase, study will be conducted on whether the lodged cases meet substantial evidence.”
According to her, the TRC will also work to establish murder cases and cases related to displacement and property captured in the first phase. “In the second phase, investigation into serious crimes like murder, abduction, rape and physical and mental tortures will be carried out,” added Jha.
The TRC has been registering cases of human rights violations committed during the insurgency from 73 districts (except Manang and Mustang) across the country. TRC offices in the Mid-Western Development Region have received the highest number of cases.
